ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Rian Seipler retired as a district manager from a very successful off-price retail chain. He began his career by working after high school as a stock boy in a discount store. After graduating from high school, he was asked to join the management program and accepted the offer. His idea was to work full time as a retail manager while attending college part time; however, being a manager on salary involved working a minimum of five to six days a week and eight to twelve hours a day. This made it impossible for Rian to attend college.
From the age of twenty-one to sixty-four, he was in retail management, working four different retail companies and holding positions of assistant store manager, store manager, regional merchandise manager, and district manager. Throughout Rian’s career, he was dedicated to the study of business leadership, and communications. He has read many books, attended countless seminars, workshops, and meetings on leadership and communication. He has observed and interacted with leaders both successful and unsuccessful, and learned from both.
Throughout his career, working with hundreds of people, and because of his intentional desire to always improve his performance, Rian has collected thoughts, ideas, strategies, and specific ways that will enable everyone to enhance their communication skills.
At the age of thirty-two, Rian accepted Christ as savior. His spiritual growth was slow, and for the first eight years after his salvation, he had one foot in the world and one foot in Christ. As you know, in the business world, working your way up the ladder involves many sacrifices; and in the retail world, the cost is always time and often your personal ethics. As he was maturing in Christ, he had learned to follow God’s ways and still be successful at his job. (He was selected as ‘District Manager of the Year’ five of his last seven years with TJX Corporation). Again, to accomplish this, sacrifices had to be made. As he was called to do more for God and the church Rian realized that God’s way was the best way and the right way in all things. He was ordained as a Southern Baptist Minister in 2003.
In his final fifteen years as a district manager, he began to earnestly study what God’s word said about leadership and communication. And there is a treasure chest of information about these two subjects in the Bible. As he tried to make the right decisions for the right reasons, Rian was reprimanded for being too open about his Christianity more than once; and although no one in the company would admit it, he believes it cost him a significant promotion. Rian knew he could not stop witnessing nor hiding his Christian beliefs, so through the Holy Spirit, he tried new approaches to share his faith, as discussed in this book.
